Sam has had engineering education in Britain since year 10. Firstly with 'O' Level Engineering, then City & Guilds General Certificate of Engineering, then Ordinary National Diploma in Technology, & culminating in BSc Engineering at Aberdeen University, Scotland in 1979 a Master of Philosophy (M.Ph Engineering) at Curtin University.

His experience has encompassed civil engineering as site engineer; deep sewerage & drainage in Totnes, Devon (Southern Counties Construction). Civil engineering as consulting engineer in Geraldton, WA (GHD). Mechanical engineering in design & construction (A.I.M Pty Ltd & various clients, such as D-Trans). Structural engineering as consulting engineer (Advanteering, GHD, Structerre, & Peritas Group).

Sam is currently one of Australia's foremost cold-formed steel designers, with several thousand projects all around Australia & from Mozambique to Mexico, & other steel structures all over Australia & the Middle East (with Lysaght & Barclay Engineering).

He has done designs & assessments for sheds, gantry crane structures, multi-storey residential, portable generator housings, exhaust stacks, solar water heaters & mountings, road fuel tanker certification, road train trailers, towers, jetties, bridges, roads, sewerage & reticulation, site evaluation & soil testing, insurance inspections of buildings & civil works, expert witness court cases & disputed design audits, material section capacities and other items.

For over twenty years Tegan has been involved in the design of a large variety of projects - from residential single and multistorey dwellings to wide span cold form steel design.

Since joining Engineering Online he has been involved in the structural inspections of fire affected dwellings, inspections and condition reports of warehouses and sheds, inspections of rafter condition in residential houses, retrospective building application inspections and reports, planning, designing, and coordinating the structural design of cold form and hot rolled large sheds and warehouses throughout the South West of WA and North West cyclonic regions, as-constructed inspections of finished structures, inspections and repair reports of under performing and failing structures, design of screen walls, retaining walls, pergolas, patios, small sheds, warehouses, house additions, two storey framed houses, staircases, design of rammed earth houses, windvanes, signs, shadesales, and temporary works, tender briefings and consultations, meeting with clients to present proposals, and technical consultations, heavy industrial certification of equipment supports, certification of transportables, crane beam, rail, and shed analysis and certification, website design and construction, CRO, marketing, and copy writing.
